To date, Scarborough Cycles has opened two community bike hubs, at Access Point on Danforth and Birchmount Bluffs Neighbourhood Centre, representing an important first step in turning the trend of declining ridership in the suburbs around.Over the last 20 years a striking divergence in cycling occurred between Toronto’s central and outer wards, with cycling in the central city dramatically increasing at the same time as it declined in the suburbs.Today, 80% of all cycling trips take place in Toronto’s central wards and just one of Toronto’s 96 bicycle shops is located in Scarborough.Project Advisory Committee Toronto is a destination for people from all over the world.More than half the city’s residents were born outside Canada and over the past 10 years more than half a million immigrants and refugees have settled here.
